Double Gloucester
Double Gloucester is a traditional, full-fat hard cheese crafted from cow's milk, originating in 1498 in the City of Gloucester.
Made from the milk of Old Gloucester cows, it comes in single and double varieties, with Double Gloucester using full-fat milk, twice the height of Single Gloucester, and boasting a more flavorful profile.
The cheese has a smooth, buttery texture, a rich and nutty yet mellow flavor, and an apricot color from annatto plant extract.
Aged for at least 4 months with vegetarian rennet, it develops more complex flavors if aged further, becoming hard and flaky.
Double Gloucester participates in the Cooper's Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake annually. Paired well with British Ale or red wine like Syrah, it has won international awards, including a Silver medal at the 2014 World Cheese Awards.
